Newsletters Subscription

Unit 6 task 4

In this entry I will talk about newsletters. But, what is a newsletter? It is a social media resource of a concrete field of expertision in which just a few people participate. It also has periodical publications, depending on the newsletter once a week or a month, and a person who moderates. The particularity of this resource is that just members or subscriptors receive the information periodically.

After this brief definition, I have subscribed to 2 differents newsletters referred to the field of the Physical Education & Health.

The first one is PE Central. As I said in the previous entry of this blog, this website is a great place in which teachers and even parents share ideas and resources related with the physical education, activity and fitness. It also has accounts to follow in different social media networks, such as: facebook, twitter and pinterest. This newsletter is from USA, so its lessons and activities are based mainly in the american culture, but are easy adaptable.

The second is PELIKNS4U. This website with lots of different topics about physical activity, such as: adapted PE, coaching &sports, health & nutrition, PE for different education stages and so on.

From the second newsletter, I've chosen an article that I like called "Striving to be a Superhero Physical Education Teacher". You can see the article HERE. The article reflects on the abilities, aptitudes and actitudes that a great PE teacher should have, and it also relates these qualifications with the desirable standards established by the American National Authority.

In my opinion, the second newsletter has more quality and better topics related with the physical activity in every single stage of the Education system, so it is the most completed one of the two newsletters above-mentioned.

My favourite apps & resources for P.E.

Unit 6 Task 2

In this entry I'm going to comment my favourite apps and resources for my Physical Education lessons, from the previous entry of my blog.

For my P.E. lessons I would choose the second chance of the lessons for print. This lesson is "cooperative games" for grades from 4th to 6th. I like that lesson because it has some kind of games easy to adapt to the aforementioned grades and more. The cooperative games are very common and useful in P.E. So, I think this lesson will be the best to choose.

In the matter of using whiteboards on the P.E. lessons I'm not very convinced of the feasibility of the fully and efectively integration of this tool, in the whole Primary stage. However, I think that the whiteboard is a great resource for the development of the psychomotor activity in the kindergarten stage and maybe in a few moments in the first cycle of Primary.
My favourite whiteboard tool of the aforementioned is QDPA (Quality Daily Physical Activity. This activity can be used for the daily routine of exercise, it contains a large number of interactive activities that you can choose. With this tool students can choose actions and songs. Is easy to adapt and vary the level according to our aims and studnets.

In the case of P.E. teachers is necessary to get updated frequently in order to avoid the obsolescence. To do that we have different ways, but nowadays the easiest is to keep in touch with publications, not only from the scholars of physical activity, but also from the ideas and innovations from other teachers. In this respect I have chosen a website in which this collaboration is frequent.
My favourite on-line website of publications is PE Central. It is a place in which teachers and even parents share ideas and resources related with the physical education, physical activity and fitness.
The thing that I like most of this site is the large amount of info, ideas and resources. It has different spaces, such as: adapted PE, fitness programs, video library, challenges, shop, professional development and so on. I think that is one resource that should be compulsory for PE teachers.

When we talk about apps and tools for computers, smartphones or tablets, we can find thousands of them. But related with the physical education and activity I think there are much less.
The app that I prefer of the ones mentioned in the previous entry of the blog is Coach's eye.  With this app for tablet, smartphone and even computer. We can record our students performing skills or doing any physical activity and play it in slow motion or backwards. This functions will help us and the students to see what they do well and what they don't, so it will be a great tool for feedback. I think Coach's eye is useful for teachers and coaches, it helps students to see how they perform any skill or exercise.

To sum up, all of these resources are useful in some way or for somebody. But it depends on the aims, needs, students and teacher experience. In the subject of Physical Education, there is nothing fixed and everything depends on the teacher's imagination and aims.
So, the 4 resources that I've chosen are useful each one in a different stage of the compulsory education and for differnt aims.

RSGAE

Unit 5 Task 3

What does it mean RSGAE???

RSGAE is a project of a website with an e-learning packages for languages and intercultural awareness for a work based learning period abroad. It means, Ready Study Go Around Europe.

It is a collaborative project of Universities from different countries of the European Union, in which anyone can learn the basic language, customs and traditions of one country of the EU.

This project brings the opportunty of learn the basic of different working sectors of each country. The languages availables are: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Finnish, Estonian, Swedish, Hungarian, Polish and Turkish.

In my opinion, this project is a great idea for improving the collaboration and mobilisation throughout the EU. However, it has many upgrading aspects, such as: the chance of continous support or interaction with native teachers, expand the categories or sectors of each language and country, and a place in which everyone can make suggestions or comment his or her experience.

You can visit this fantastic project by clicking HERE.

CMS examples

Unit 5 Task 2

In this task I have to visit, compare and choose from different CMS, content magament systems.

The options are: Drupal, Wordpress, Joomla, SPIP, Ziluka, Mestre a Casa and Moodle.

After browsing some examples of all of the aforementioned CMS, I have to say that all of these pages I found more or less the same common things, such as: calendars, RSS, links to other interesting sites, entries or news, photos, and so on. The main differences are the colours, the format, the templates and the option of two different languages.

I have chosen the blog of the IES Benjamín Jarnés. This is a blog powered by WordPress, in which we can find many interesting web tabs. In these web tabs we find some focused, obviously, to the students. But also, other web tabs are for the teachers and for the parents. Other thing that I like of this page is that there are many links to pages of the different departments and school associations. There are also many updated photos of the different activities done in the School Center.

I have chosen this page instead of one of the others beacuse I think is the most completed one and the only one that is not exclusively orientated for the students and teachers. I think that the integration of the parents, family and other social actors that are surrounding the educational environment is an aspect very important and sometimes it is forgotten.
